Autumn days ahead
Well, with the start of October now here, it brings with it Autumn days and nights, crisp clear days, mist rising off the shed roof and garden and with it the changing of the colour of the leaves, those lovely summer greens turning into the cosy and warm Autumn golds and browns that we all love.
Just around the corner we start seeing Halloween and Christmas products everywhere and for many seasoned gardeners and those just getting into gardening we start preparing the ground, planters, raised beds and greenhouses for the small winter crops and the spring crops.
So, that said, as stated in my previous blog post, a few gardening hints and tips for beginners:
in October many people like to try and prepare for early spring in the coming weeks by sowing Broad beans. For Broad beans try planting the seeds roughly 2 inches into the ground and spacing them 5-6 inches apart, they can also be planted in small pots to start with in the greenhouse then transferred into the ground at a later date once the stems are around 4-5 inches high. Remember to keep them lightly watered. Why not try to grow some winter lettuces?? many popular autumn/ winter varieties include Rocket and Lambs lettuce (also known as Corn salad), these grow well under a thick cloche and in raised beds and are ideal for beginners.
On the Website shop you will find my Raised bed and planter which are ideal for growing salad items and some vegetables like Radish, Beetroot and Chantenay Carrots and they can also be covered with Cloche to protect crops in Autumn and Winter.
Coming soon to the website will be a Garden dibber for sowing seeds, Seed Box for storage and a few other Garden items to help you get ready for Spring!
